离 [ lí ] means ‘from’. It is used to talk about the distance between two places. 离 [ lí ] significa ‘desde’. Se usa para hablar de la distancia entre dos lugares.

If you want to be more exact than just saying “close” or “far”, you can give the specific distance using miles, kilometers, or any other unit. Si quieres ser más preciso que solo decir “cerca” o “lejos”, puedes decir la distancia exacta usando millas, kilómetros u otra unidad.

We usually measure time from the present, so the starting point is understood. Saying “from now to my mother’s birthday” sounds strange in English — and in Chinese too.
