Is there a Chinese alphabet? / ¿Existe un alfabeto chino?

Many students who are new to this exciting language ask me this question.  It seems that coming from Latin-based languages and having performed the "alphabet" chant as a routine activity in the first years of learning at school, the normal tendency when starting out in the Chinese language would be to begin with some type of alphabet that brought together all the available letters.

Muchos estudiantes que se inician en este apasionante idioma me plantean esta pregunta.  Parece que al venir de idiomas con base latina y habiendo realizado el canto del "alfabeto" como actividad rutinaria en los primeros años de aprendizaje en el colegio, la tendencia normal al iniciarse en el idioma chino sería comenzar por algún tipo de abecedario que aglutinara todas las letras disponibles.

What is the "pinyin" / Qué es el "pinyin"

The pinyin is the Chinese phonetic transcription system.  It is based on the Latin alphabet and it allows to pronounce Chinese words in an easier way for those who are new studying Chinese language.

El pinyin es el sistema de transcripción fonética del chino. Basado en el alfabeto latino, permite pronunciar palabras chinas y es muy útil para los que se inician en el estudio del idioma chino.
