Negative Particle 不 [ bù ] in Chinese / Partícula negativa 不 [ bù ] en chino


我不吃米饭。
Wǒ bù chī mǐfàn.
I don't eat rice.
Yo no como arroz.


The character 不 [bù] normally has the fourth tone (falling). But when 不 comes before another syllable with the fourth tone, it changes to the second tone (rising): bú.  This makes the sentence sound smoother and easier to pronounce.
El carácter 不 [bù] normalmente tiene el cuarto tono (descendente).  Pero cuando 不 va delante de otra sílaba con cuarto tono, cambia al segundo tono (ascendente): bú. Esto hace que la frase suene más natural y fluida.

我不是学生。

Wǒ bù shì xuéshēng. → Wǒ bú shì xuéshēng.
